From Brick to Smart Phone
Let¡¯s guess what it is.It is always by your side and it follows you wherever you go.
Your loved ones or pets could be an answer, but this is a column about the IT industry so better choose an IT device near you.
The answer is simple. Although one of the answers can be your notebook which you can carry anywhere, a more appropriate answer would be the so-called "cell phone" that is with you all the time.
This is how it changed the cell phone came out.
As I mentioned in the first column, early generation cell phones were incredibly expensive and a lot heavier. They looked and felt like a brick since the phone were big, boxy and thick. They were not ¡®mobile¡¯.
Let¡¯s look at the photo of a famous actor with a huge phone.It must have been a state of the art phone at the time which only few people could afford.
The next phase of cell phone evolution added new features such as text messaging, allowing people to communicate non-verbally. It also came with a lower price tag.
As time passed, cell phones became smaller and truly mobile, slimmer and lighter with advances in electronics and revolutionary changes in semiconductor memory creating an advanced version of the cell phone called ¡®smart phone¡¯. We are proud to say that Hynix played an important role in this transformation.
What is the difference between a legacy mobile phone and a smart phone?
A legacy phone functions mostly as a voice only device, with little or no built-in intelligence. The Smartphone is ¡®intelligent¡¯ and can be programmed to perform many different functions or applications.These applications include games, camera, text messaging, GPS navigation, voice commands, directories, calendars, MP3 players, and many others. Hynix products enabled a number of these new applications.
I am wondering what a mobile phone would look like in the future.The cell phone has undergone a spectacular evolution from a heavy brick-like device to a true mobile application which keeps us connected any time and any place. As we grow the capabilities of the phone, the possibilities are endless. Who knows, a device such as a mobile phone may even help man to travel through time.

P.S > Even though I enjoy using my smart phone, I cannot say that evolution is always a good thing. It is a very convenient communication tool, but I sometimes miss seeing my friends and colleagues. It is a good productivity tool, but I feel tethered to my office at all hours.
